Breaking Silos: Applied Improv Workshop on Air Pollution
Kaivalya Plays, in collaboration with the American Centre New Delhi, conducted the workshop "Breaking Silos: Applied Improv for Air Pollution Communication" on Friday, January 10, 2025. This interactive session brought together professionals from nonprofits, think tanks, and policy organizations specializing in air pollution, alongside students and climate change enthusiasts.
The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between researchers and content creators, equipping participants with storytelling and improvisation techniques to effectively communicate complex air pollution data. The activities encouraged collaboration, creativity, and the development of accessible, emotionally resonant narratives.
Key activities, amongst unstructured discussions and creative brainstoriming sessions, included:
Clap If You…: An engaging icebreaker to establish a sense of community.
Human Map: A visualization exercise to understand shared and individual perspectives.
Story Spine: A framework to create compelling narratives.
Gift Giving: A game fostering creative thinking and collaboration.
The session concluded with reflections and a wind-down activity, "Wouldn’t It Be Nice If…," envisioning collaborative possibilities for future communication strategies. By the end, participants left with practical tools to enhance public engagement and improve air pollution messaging.
